Faith Lutheran Staff


  • Pastor David Birsching grew up in the small town of Sebewaing, Michigan.  He graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in 1990, and was assigned to serve St. Pauls Lutheran Church here in Tacoma.  He has been there ever since.  Currently, he is also serving as the pastor at Faith Lutheran Church and School until God provides Faith with our own full-time pastor.

  • Mr. Paul Leifer began teaching at Faith in 2014. Prior to joining Faith, Mr. Leifer served for 8 years as principal of Hope Lutheran School, Penryn, California, where he successfully led them through the accreditation process. As upper grades teacher, Mr. Leifer enjoys helping students become independent learners that are ready to tackle the challenges of high school. A father of two children, Mr. Leifer is used to the active lifestyle that kids bring. He is currently taking course for his Masters Degree in Education - Special Education Emphasis. Mr. Leifer is a member of the professional teaching organization ASCD.

  • Miss Heidi Moldenhauer graduated from Martin Luther College in May 2018 and was assigned to teach grades 5-6 and be the Athletic Director at Faith. She has enjoyed all of her experiences with children, some of which include working for the YMCA as a summer camp counselor, teaching Vacation Bible School, Coaching the MVL High School Dance Team, and her two student teaching experiences in grades 2-3. In her free time, she likes to play volleyball, hike, and visit family and friends. 

  • Mrs. Naomi Getka began teaching at Faith in 2016. Mrs. Getka graduated from Dr. Martin Luther College in 1995. Since then her teaching career includes working with a variety of grade levels that include teaching grades 1-5 and freshman through seniors at various schools. She and her husband, Jim, have five children. Mrs. Getka enjoys hiking, reading, volleyball, and time with family and friends.

  • Mrs. Jill Holter has taught in the Tacoma area since her graduation from Dr. Martin Luther College in 1981. Mrs. Holter has been teaching at Faith Lutheran since 1994. She has taught many different grades in her teaching career, but currently teaches grades 1-2. She and her husband Larry have two children. Her hobbies include kayaking and reading. 

  • Mrs. Mary Kurbis has been teaching kindergarten at Faith Lutheran since 1997. She also directs the Junior Choir and plays the organ for church services. She and her husband Jeff have lived in Tacoma since 1992. The Kurbis' have five children and 7 grandchildren. Her hobbies include reading and gardening. 

  • Mrs. Nicole Habeck has been a part of the licensed preschool teaching staff since 2015. Mrs. Habeck attended Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, MN and graduated in 2004. She completed her Bachelors Degree in Education in 2017 from Western Governors University and earned her WA State Teachers License in 2018. Mrs. Habeck has experience teaching preschool through 6th grade. She is excited to serve the families of Faith as Director and Lead Teacher of the preschool. Mrs. Habeck is married to Nic Habeck and they have four children, Lily, Gabriel, Rudy, and Luther. She loves sports-especially soccer and basketball, to do anything outside, and to spend time with her family and friends. 

  • Mrs. Nancy Leifer began serving as Office Manager at Faith in 2014. Nancy graduated from Martin Luther College in 2004 with a degree in Elementary Education. She also teaches grades 7-8 to provide admin time for her husband, Paul. Nancy and Paul have been married since 2005 and have two children. In her free time, Nancy enjoys spending time with her family, crafting, and cooking.
